Emoticons are not exported on cloud

Description

When exporting emoticons from the cloud editor (old editor and also available via new cloud editor) the standard emoticons available are not exported. These include:

For new emoticons provided via the new cloud editor experience we are aware these are not exported (instead the related text is exported) and we are tracking the issue internally. Atlassian have created their own issue for this behaviour and you can track this here:  https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-64431.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Create a page using the new editor experience

  2. Add the Smiley emoticon

  3. Export the page

Expected result: The emoticon is exported

Actual result: A blank square is exported in Scroll PDF Exporter. A square with a red cross is exported with Scroll Word Exporter

Workaround: In some case it may be possible to use Windows or Mac keyboard shortcuts to add the respective OS emoticons to a page in Confluence (please note, this may only work in some use cases as using this approach can lead to the output of the emoticons on the page not match what is rendered in the export). To open the emoticon keyboard use:

  • Mac keyboard shortcut = Control + Command + Spacebar

  • Windows keyboard shortcut = Press Windows + ; (semi-colon)
